Microsoft announces $1m Halo World Championship this winter

Microsoft wants a piece of the eSports pie and it’s staking $1 million dollars to do it. The $1 million dollar prize pool for the first ever Halo World Championships will happen this winter, with Halo 5: Guardians being the focus. Executive producer Josh Holmes took to the stage to announce the Championship, stating that Microsoft wants to be at the forefront of Xbox eSports.

Halo has always been synonymous with online competition and was an originator in console eSports. With Halo 5: Guardians we are fully embracing that legacy with the biggest investment in Xbox eSports history. Get ready for the first-ever Halo World Championship coming this winter with a prize pool of over $1 million dollars.

No official date for the Championship has been scheduled, but it will happen sometime this year with the release of Halo 5: Guardians.
